Honorable Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago Welcomed the Initiative

CHICAGO, IL: (Marketwired via COMTEX) -- UST Global, a Los Angeles-based information technology solutions and services company for Global 1000 enterprises, today launched in Chicago 'Step IT Up America,' a nationwide Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiative to educate and hire 5,000 minority women across the country by 2020.

Step IT Up America is an ambitious jobs creation initiative designed to support the efforts of STEM education and workforce development in the IT industry. Step IT Up America in Chicago will train and create jobs for 100 minority women in the field of IT, serving a demographic that has been traditionally underrepresented in this growing and important industry. The inaugural class of 33 women began the program this week.

"Creating a deep and diverse talent pool is essential to successfully developing Chicago's technology sector," said Mayor Emanuel. "Through partnerships with Chicago's business leaders and programs such as Step IT Up, we will ensure that our workforce has a direct pipeline to jobs and our own youth is being educated and trained for successful 21st century technology jobs here in Chicago."

"The three pillars of a successful technology company are talent, innovation and diversity. Without diversity, we are unable to gather the best and brightest minds that bring unique perspectives to create meaningful solutions for the world's most pressing challenges," said Sajan Pillai, CEO of UST Global. "We are encouraged by the warm welcome given by the Mayor and the City of Chicago and are excited to partner together."

Step IT Up is working with Skills for Chicagoland's Future, a public-private partnership partially funded by the City of Chicago, to identify and recruit qualified, unemployed jobseekers for this program and others like it.

To date, Step IT Up America has successfully launched in five cities: Atlanta, Philadelphia, Detroit, Los Angeles and today, Chicago. This program has touched the lives of over 300 women, and by the end of 2014, 'Step IT Up America' will launch in 10 US cities across the country.

Keynote speakers included the Honorable Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago, Theresa Mintle President, Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and Carlos Gutierrez, Co-Chair of Albright Stonebridge Group and Former U.S. Secretary of Commerce.
