UST Global's Rochester Program for Minority and Urban Women Part of Nationwide Initiative to Grow STEM Careers
ROCHESTER, NY--(August 26, 2015) - UST Global, a Los Angeles-based information technology solutions and services company serving Global 1000 enterprises, today graduated 21 women from its proprietary 'Step IT Up America -- Rochester’ program, part of its nationwide Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiative to, by 2020, educate 5,000 minority and urban women across the country and place them in jobs.
The Step IT Up America -- Rochester graduates, who represent what is usually an underrepresented demographic among the booming technology career field, will immediately start training and placement at Xerox Corporation, a global business services, technology and document management company.
The Rochester graduation included keynote speeches from Stephen Little, Global CIO at Xerox and BG Moore, Chief of Staff at UST Global.
“I could not be happier about this graduation and for the future careers of these bright and ambitious women. We know they will be great resources for Xerox,” said UST Global CEO Sajan Pillai. “We are pleased that we can contribute towards the nationwide ambition to close the gender gap in tech.”
“Step IT Up America is a great program that has given me to tools needed to launch a career in IT,” said Alexandria Kelley, graduate of Step IT Up America. “I’m excited to start working at Xerox, and I highly encourage other women to also to push the boundaries of what is possible in their careers and lives.”
“This partnership provides Xerox the opportunity to impact the lives of women seeking careers in the Information Technology industry,” said Steve Little, Xerox Global Chief Information Officer. “The core goals of Step IT Up America work in tandem with Xerox’s strong culture of diversity and inclusion, and our business will be all the better with these driven women.”
Step IT Up America has successfully launched in many U.S. cities: Atlanta, Philadelphia, Detroit, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York are a few examples. This program has already touched the lives of over 300 women. Candidates can apply for the program at www.joinstepitupamerica.com
