IN 1999, FILMMAKER JEREMY GILLEY FOUNDED THE
NON-PROFIT ORGANISATION PEACE ONE DAY.

In 2001 Peace One Day’s efforts were rewarded when the member states of the United Nations unanimously adopted the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on 21 September – Peace Day.

PEACE ONE DAY'S OBJECTIVE IS TO INSTITUTIONALISE
PEACE DAY 21 SEPTEMBER, MAKING IT A DAY THAT IS SELF-SUSTAINING

Since 2007, as a result of Peace Day agreements in Afghanistan, 4.5 million children have been vaccinated against polio. The United Nations Department of Safety and Security also monitored a 70% reduction in violent incidents on Peace Day 2007.

In 2012, 280 million people were aware of Peace Day – 4% of the world’s population.

It is estimated that 2% of those 280 million people (5.6 million people) behaved more peacefully as a result. (Source: McKinsey and Company Peace One Day 2012 Report)

PEACE ONE DAY AIMS TO REACH 3 BILLION PEOPLE WITH THE MESSAGE OF PEACE DAY BY 21 SEPTEMBER 2016

To raise awareness of Peace Day, Peace One Day works in Education, Music, Film, Sport, Dance, Art, Online and through a series of Coalitions encompassing thousands of organisations.

Awareness of Peace Day creates action - that action saves lives
